Key Coaching Points - Multi–Skills Bag

These are the key techniques you can carry out on The Collision King Multi-Skills Bag:

    • Low Tackle: Speed of approach, eyes on the target and set height, hip sink, foot in close, same foot same shoulder, initial shoulder contact, arm wrap and grip, chase the feet, complete the tackle.
    • Mid Tackle: Speed of approach, eyes on the target and set height, hip sink, foot in close, same foot same shoulder, initial shoulder contact, arm wrap and grip, chase the feet, complete the tackle.
    • Chest Tackle Ball & All: Speed of approach, eyes on the target, hip sink, foot in close, same foot same shoulder, initial shoulder contact and lock in ball, arm wrap and grip, chase the feet, complete the tackle.
    • Double Team Tackle: Working as a tackle team 1st and 2nd man, speed of approach, eyes on the target, hip sink, foot in close, same foot same shoulder, initial shoulder contact, arm wrap and grip, chase the feet, hips together, complete the tackle.
    • Single Jackal: As above for key tackle points… from chasing your feet get into a strong position over the ball, hands onto ball and hold or pull ball up onto chest, feet shoulder width apart and sink into a strong position, stay square, hips down, flat back showing no angles and head tucked back into shoulders, head in a neutral position, eyes looking over for potential threats.
    • Single Jackal & Clean: As above but instead of holding in the Jackal position for the steal, go past the ball and attack through the tackle to affect opposition clean out accuracy.
    • Double Jackal: As Single Jackal for key tackle points… from chasing your feet get into a strong position over the ball, hands onto ball and hold or pull ball up onto chest, feet shoulder width apart and sink into a strong position, stay square, hips down, flat back showing no angles and head tucked back into shoulders, head in a neutral position, eyes looking over for potential threats. The second player then joins the jackler to create a strong bind shoulder to shoulder to protect the jackal and to form a strong holding formation.
    • Single Clean Out Accuracy: Use angle on the Multi-Skills Bag to create a target to clean out, drop height from approx. 3m from bag, sink hips, eyes always on target, come through the gate and make accurate shoulder and grip contact with the bag (red arms on bag are the grip-target), follow through from low to high with strong leg drive and finish on your feet or strong holding position.
    • Double Clean Out Accuracy: This time in pairs, use angle on Multi-Skills Bag to create a target to clean out, drop height from approx. 3m from bag, sink hips, eyes always on target, come through the gate and make accurate shoulder and grip contact with the bag (red arms on bag are the grip-target), follow through from low to high with strong leg drive and finish on your feet or strong holding position.
    • Shoulder Battle: Use secondary angle on Multi-Skills Bag to create a target that gives you an edge to place your shoulder under and get underneath, drop height from approx. 3m from bag, sink hips, eyes always on target, come through the gate and make accurate shoulder contact with the underside of the angle on the bag, follow through from low to high with strong leg drive and finish on your feet or strong holding position.
    • Shoulder Battle and Jackal Technique: Use secondary angle on Multi-Skills Bag to create a target that gives you an edge to place your shoulder under and get underneath, drop height from approx. 3m from bag, sink hips, eyes always on target, come through the gate and make accurate shoulder contact with the underside of the angle on the bag, follow through from low to high and get hands to ball either to hold or get ball onto chest.
    • Tackle & Walk: Speed of approach, eyes on target and set height, hip sink, foot in close, same foot same shoulder, initial shoulder contact, arm wrap and grip, chase the feet, complete the tackle first then in a secondary movement crawl out over the top of Multi-Skills Bag keeping hands off the grass and using the red arms on the side of the bag to work along, stay low and finish in strong holding position on end of bag.
    • Kick Contestable Turnover Technique: There are many different sequences within this action but the basic technique is for two players to attack the bag. The bag can be placed on the ground or can be thrown up into the air by the coach. Player 1 - Speed of approach, eyes on target and set height, hip sink, foot in close, same foot same shoulder, initial shoulder contact, arm wrap and grip, chase the feet, complete the tackle. Player 2 - As above for key tackle points then… chase your feet, get into a strong position over ball, hands onto ball and hold or pull ball up onto chest, feet shoulder width apart and sink into a strong position, stay square, hips down, flat back showing no angles and head tucked back into shoulders, head in a neutral position, eyes looking over for potential threats. Tackler 1 can recycle himself into support for stealer.
    • As a coach, get your player(s) to approach the bag from different angles and speeds - do not always give the player a straight approach to the bag i.e. hit ground and up, hit ground and roll then back to feet, get the player to evade you then make the hit…never make it easy!
    • You can work on a straight hit or fatigue the player first then carry out different techniques so that it puts the player’s skills under pressure.
    • As a coach, look for speed of movement of the player getting back to their feet after the tackle. Look to keep hips low and square, up into strong squatting base position or crawl out on all fours and back to standing.
    • The player can add in a dynamic roll once the bag has been tackled, working core and arm strength. If the player is getting back onto their feet and in and over the bag, make sure the player’s feet are not too close together but are at the correct width to bring about outstanding stability in supporting their own body weight and being ready for the threat.
    • If you are asking the player to go in and over the bag once the tackle has been carried out, always finish in a strong end position, eyes up looking for the threat or in a defensive position ready to protect from oncoming contact.
    • You can bring in a second and third player to put pressure on the tackler. As the tackler gets to their feet and fights to roll the bag or get in and over the bag, the second player can attack the tackler affecting the player’s balance or try to get underneath the player in order to win the “shoulder battle”.
